Peer review process
The Journal of Life Sciences and Biomedicine (JLSB) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity, academic quality, transparency, and ethical publishing practices. The journal employs a rigorous double-blind peer review system designed to ensure the publication of scientifically sound, original, and impactful research in the fields of life sciences, biological sciences, and biomedicine.
Under the double-blind review model, the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the evaluation process in order to ensure impartiality, objectivity, and academic fairness.
All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment conducted by the editorial office and subject editors. During this stage, manuscripts are evaluated for their relevance to the journal’s scope, scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, language clarity, and compliance with the journal’s ethical and formatting requirements. Manuscripts that do not meet the minimum editorial and scientific standards may be rejected without external peer review (desk rejection) to facilitate an efficient editorial process and avoid unnecessary delays for authors.
Manuscripts considered suitable for further evaluation are assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers with recognized expertise in the relevant field. Reviewers are selected based on academic qualifications, research experience, publication record, and subject specialization. The peer review process aims to provide constructive, evidence-based, and unbiased evaluations that support editorial decision-making and contribute to the improvement of submitted manuscripts.
Objectives of Peer Review
The peer review process is intended to ensure:
- Scientific validity, originality, and methodological rigor
- Academic relevance and contribution to the field
- Ethical compliance and research integrity
- Clarity, coherence, and scholarly quality of presentation
- Independent, objective, and confidential assessment
- Constructive feedback for authors and editors
Evaluation Criteria
Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on several academic and scientific criteria, including:
- Originality and novelty of the research
- Relevance and significance of the topic
- Adequacy and appropriateness of research methodology
- Validity and reliability of data and analyses
- Scientific interpretation and discussion of findings
- Quality of writing, structure, and organization
- Compliance with ethical standards and reporting guidelines
- Suitability for publication within the journal’s scope
Editorial Decisions
Following peer review, the editorial office makes a final publication decision based on reviewers’ reports, editorial evaluation, and the scientific merit of the manuscript. In cases of conflicting recommendations, additional reviews or consultation with members of the editorial board may be requested.
Editorial decisions generally fall into the following categories:
- Accept without revision
- Accept with minor revisions
- Major revisions required
- Resubmit for further review
- Reject
Revision and Resubmission Process
Authors receiving revision requests are expected to submit a revised version of the manuscript together with a detailed response letter addressing all reviewer comments point-by-point.
- Minor revisions should generally be submitted within 14 days.
- Major revisions should generally be submitted within 30 days.
Revised manuscripts must clearly highlight all modifications and be submitted in editable Microsoft Word format.
Final Production and Proofreading
Accepted manuscripts undergo professional copyediting, formatting, metadata preparation, and final proofreading before publication. The corresponding author receives page proofs for final approval prior to publication. Authors are responsible for carefully reviewing proofs and notifying the editorial office of any corrections. After final approval, the journal cannot be held responsible for errors remaining in the published version.
